Transport Airship Construction 2

We finished a rough sketch of the transport-type airship.

It has a short and wide fuselage, a delta wing that wouldn’t generate enough lift if it isn’t paired with a powerful engine and magic. It has twin vertical stabilizers like on the F15 Eagle, and a horizontal stabilizer to give the airframe some vertical stability.

Unlike the Ouranos, it has tires as landing gears, and on the back of the stout fuselage was a hatch that could open and close to launch the Ouranos.

Once I finished sketching it from various angles, Laeva and I discussed the finer details for a little while. The entire designing process went quite smoothly without much obstacles since most of the technology technically already existed.

「We need to decide on the size of the aircraft based on its storing capacity for the Ouranos and the cargo hold.」
「Indeed. Ideally, it should be able to handle transportation in a single trip.」
「Yeah. We’re getting paid sufficiently, but taking care of three countries’ knight orders all at once is still something I find it hard to accept.」
「Yes, it is. And it is not as though you could not participate in it entirely either.」
「I know, right?」

Obviously, I wouldn’t be stuck inside the dungeon supervising them, but even so, the wait time at the campsite would still be long.

I really dislike having less time to spend with my children.

Well, I do frequently teleport home from the campsite anyway.

「What about weapons?」
「Would not having any at all be bad?」
「I believe defense strong enough to fend off wyverns is necessary.」
「I guess you’re right. It needs to be strong enough to be fine if it’s attacked by wyverns, but I suppose it would be better if we could repel them.」

The Ouranos could easily crush even Dragon-types, but a transport airship doesn’t need that much firepower.

「Or should we equip it with a high powered artillery?」
「We could prepare just one just in case?」
「Then, we can fasten it to the nose of the aircraft so it won’t be in the way.」
「Understood. Then let’s equip a magic device that can fire high-powered attack spells over here…… and put a non-elemental rapid-fire gun on each wing.」

While operating the transport airship, as long as the Ouranos was on board, we could respond to most flying monsters, but we still had to make plans for the times when the Ouranos would be away.

「Then let’s design it right away.」
「Even if expand the space, we still have to figure out the size of the entry and exit hatch for the Ouranos, and then we can calculate the size of the transport airship.」
「It seems we will have to go mining again.」
「Yeah. We went mining for the knights’ equipment, but the base material for the aircraft will not be magic steel, but rather mithril.」
「Indeed. We lack mithril.」

I have huge quantities of material stocked in my Item Box, but we had used all of the mithril for the Sanctuary Knights’ equipment, so there wasn’t enough to build a transport airship.

Though it was a transport airship, since it would carry people and supplies related to them, it was essential that it has some living space.

As I discussed it with Laeva, we made several revisions to the blueprints, and for now, we were deciding on its overall appearance which included its size, as well as the necessary magic devices for suspension and propulsion, barriers, and methods of attacking for self defense.

「Takumi-sama, let’s put a pin on the interior for the time being and divide the tasks we have on hand.」
「Agreed. ……then Laeva, can you handle mining the mithril ore? I’ll take care of the runway, aircraft parking apron, maintenance hangar. I think there should be enough space for a transmutation circle on the runway too.」
「I understand. Then Laeva will go mine for mithril ore.」

Laeva said that and left for the mine.

「Now then, I should check the materials for the runway and warehouse.」

The hangar, a building to store the transport airship, was going to be quite large. I was planning on storing the Ouranos there too, so I had to take that into account as well.

I checked the contents of my Item Box, verifying my stock of iron, stone, and mithril.

Regarding mithril, we planned to use a large amount of it on the airframe of the transport airship, but if the amount that Laeva mines isn’t enough, I’ll go mine some more later.

When it comes to the materials for the airframe, I would have thought of duralumin if it had been my previous life. Duralumin was an aluminum alloy, but this world had mithril, which was a better material, so I didn’t need to look for bauxite. Still, for things that don’t require excessive strength, aluminum alloy could be enough.

I should ask Gnome about it next time.
