Transport Ship Construction 1
We couldn’t exactly decline the Trination’s joint training requests.
But there was a limit to the transport capabilities of the Ouranos.
「Which is why, I think we should build a transport ship.」
「Well, it sounds interesting to make, so it’s fine. Golan-aniki and I focus mainly on the alcohol brewing anyway.」
「That’s right. I don’t mind helping. Takumi, you’re also making the Ouranos II from the Ouranos. We rarely ever need to help out either.」
「Please don’t say that and help us.」
We immediately called in Doganbo-san and Golan-san to discuss building the Transport ship.
However, Doganbo-san and Golan-san’s response was lackluster.
Perhaps because it wasn’t a completely new invention, but rather an adaptation of something that already existed, it didn’t really pique Golan-san and Doganbo-san’s interest.
「Well, call us once the design is done. You have experience with the Ouranos, so there probably isn’t much that’s new.」
「Well then, Golan-aniki and I are heading off.」
「Very well. We’ll call you when you the design is done.」
Doganbo-san and Golan-san waved their hands and left.
Just how much do they love drinks.
「It will be alright Laeva will assist you.」
「Thanks, Laeva. Then shall we head to the workshop?」
Laeva and I moved to the workshop and immediately began talking about the specifications of the transporter.
「Though it’s for transport, its interior could be applied with Spatial Expansion, so it isn’t necessary to build the airframe considerably.」
「That, could be, but doubling the size of the Ouranos would still not be enough.」
「Of course I know that. However, unlike the Ouranos, we aren’t aiming for much speed, so if we make a stockier airframe, we can probably carry more people at once.」
On top of that, I don’t think a transporter needed to have Vertical Take Off and Landing (VTOL).
Of course, a long runway would be a hassle to construct, so the transporter should be capable of super short takeoffs and landing.
That said, it would still require magic as it couldn’t rely solely on lift and propulsion, so we don’t have to be too picky with takeoff and landing.
「That’s why the landing gear should use tires, unlike the Ouranos.」
「Do we still use the lifts similar to the wings of the Ouranos?」
「Yeah. Well, the wings of the Ouranos were more auxiliary, so I think the transporter should use them in the same way.」
Even so, I’m thinking of making it resemble an airplane.
When I first thought about creating the transporter, what came to mind was the gigantic airship 『Goliath』 from the anime that inspired the Ouranos.
However, the Goliath was the villain in the anime, as well as a giant that was defeated, so it had a bad image…… perhaps I should reference something else from another anime than just copying it.
Maybe one of those transport ships or like an aircraft carrier from the Gundam series?
In front of the blueprint, I began sketching to get a feel for the design.
「Let’s put two thrusters per wing, so a total of four, and let’s make them large magic devices.」
「And the vertical sliders, two of them?」
「If we want to maintain an ideal speed, that should keep the aircraft stable during flight.」
As Laeva and I were talking, I kept drawing the illustration of the aircraft.
「If we want to add a bit of luxury, I would love it if it could carry the Ouranos and a catapult to launch it from.」
「Ohh! Just imagining it is already so cool. I would like to make it happen, but that would necessitate the craft to be much larger.」
「Yeah. I was planning to make it bigger in the first place anyway, considering the wingspan of the Ouranos.
The Ouranos was remodeled to have a larger frame, so to carry it and launch it using the catapult meant the transporter’s width needed to be fairly large.
「Well, we could enlarge it with Spatial Expansion, so it wouldn’t be a problem with carrying it.」
「That’s true. However, the size of the catapult hatch isn’t affected by Spatial Expansion, so we would need a hatch that is just big enough to fit the Ouranos.」
It was then that I remembered the American Fighter from World War II, the Corsair.
「Let’s remodel the Ouranos so its wings can fold. If we do that, we can clear the issue with the size of the catapult hatch.」
「Ohh! What a great idea! The Ouranos can hover in the sky even with its wings folded, so there should be no problem.」
「Yeah, shall we go with that?」
It’s funny how my experience building tanks and fighter plane models as a kid in my previous life was coming in handy now.
Before I started collecting anime robot models, I liked making plastic models of tanks, fighter planes, and battleships, after all.
Among them, I remembered having the plastic model of the F4U Corsair with foldable wings.
It wasn’t unusual for carrier-based aircrafts to have folded wings, anyway.
Modifying the Ouranos would increase our worktime a bit, but if it was going to keep the transporter’s size smaller, then modifying the Ouranos would be considerably less tedious.
