Mining and Refining

Since we’ve somewhat settled on the equipment, the first step was to make several prototypes of armor.

Of course, I was.

So, I started by going to Doganbo-san and Golan-san at the mining area to the south of the Sanctuary.

I had a stockpile of Adamantite and Mithril Ingots in my Item Box, but I was warned that using it to make equipment for all the knights was overboard.

So we decided to go with an ore a step lower in quality, using Magic Steel and Mithril Alloy to create the equipment.

The problem is that the weapons and armors I had been making recently were all made of mithril at the minimum, so I’m running low on magic iron ore and magic steel ingots.

And so, Doganbo-san, Golan-san, and I went mining for magic iron ore and mithril ore.

「It’s been ages since I’ve gone mining with you, Takumi.」
「You’re right. It’s been quite a while, I think.」

Doganbo-san spoke with nostalgia.

I remembered going to Horuas to the north of Volton to mine adamantite ore and mithril ore with Doganbo-san as a guide.
Along the way, we went with Lyle-san, Heath-san, and Bogah-san of the 『Lion’s Fang』 to hunt Treants and Elder Treants. It had been a good experience.

Thanks to Gnome’s blessing, one could easily mine magic metal ores in this mountain.

I swung my pickaxe and worked silently, picking up adamantite and mithril by the bucket from different areas.

I stored the ores that Doganbo-san, Golan-san, and I gathered altogether into my Item Box.

「Now that I think about it, if heavy armor wouldn’t be so cumbersome if it’s enchanted with a weight reduction enchantment.」
「Even then, the bulkiness of the thick armor would still restrict movement. In the end, everyone but the Dwarves would choose armor that’s easier to move in.」
「That certainly does seem so. So, this is enough, right?」

Doganbo-san and Golan-san both also had high Mining skill, so us working together made gathering the needed amount of ore go a lot smoother than expected.

We were going to work at my workshop.

I refined copious amounts of ore.

「Alchemy sure is convenient.」
「Golan-aniki, that’s because it’s Takumi that this is possible.」
「I’m well aware. They would need to know more about metals than Dwarves.」
「On top of that, they’d have to have an absurd amount of magic power, Aniki.」
「Even I end up with a belly full of mana potions to do that too, though.」
「Okay, we have to decide the ratio of the mithril compound, Doganbo.」
「Yes, the mixture is crucial, Aniki.」
「…………」

Golan-san and Doganbo-san blatantly changed the topic. It seemed like they had no intention of helping with the ore refining process.

By the time I finished refining the magic iron and mithril, Doganbo-san and Golan-san had settled on the metal compound ratio.

「For the rookie knights, it might be too good for them, but it wouldn’t be befitting of the name of the Great Spirits if they had subpar performance.」
「That’s right. That’s why we decided to increase the percentage of mithril alloy.」
「Isn’t that fine? Maybe because the ratio of mithril in this is higher, it’s close to silver. The black color of magic steel wouldn’t suit the Sanctuary Knights armor.」

As I compared the many different alloy samples that Doganbo-san and Golan-san produced, I came to the same conclusion as them.

「Then Golan-aniki and I will make the equipment for dwarves.」
「Takumi, you do the prototyping for the humans and elves.」
「Yes, I’ll try making several armor bases.」

We decided to put a pin on the armor decorations and enchantments for now and just focus on making an armor base for each race.

For body sizes with moderate differences, a size adjusting enchantment would be enough, but there was too big of a discrepancy between Human, Elven, and Dwarven physiques. There were some factors required of the armor, so I entrusted the dwarven armor to Doganbo-san and Golan-san.

After we completed the prototype for Humans, Elves, Beastkin, and Dwarves, the knight orders could decide the decorations and color schemes to represent their organization.

However, as soon as we started making the prototypes, we discovered that the monster leather I had in my Item Box meant to be armor lining was not enough, and so I rushed out to go monster hunting with Kaede and Tsubaki.
