Undecided Equipment

Sophia left Etoile’s care to Freesia-san and spent her days attending to the knights’ training school.

Since there wasn’t that many women among the knights, I had to remodel the dormitories.

In Knight Orders in this world, there was a certain number of female knights in the platoon, like Sophia.
The existence of magic reduced the difference in physical abilities that come from gender differences.

At the area where three of the knight orders of the Sanctuary were built, we constructed a building with a joint conference room.

There, Salamander and the Fire Spirit Knights, Sylph and the Wind Spirit Knights, and lastly, Gnome and the Earth Spirit Knights had gathered there with their key members.

I didn’t want to be mixed in, but Sophia, Dante-san, and I participated.

The topic of discussion was regarding the equipment of each knight order, but this caused a lot of arguments.

Undine’s Water Spirit Knights had already decided on their standard equipment after basing it on Fluna’s equipment, but in a different color.

Fluna and the Mermangers held special positions within the knight order, and will use their five colors as is.

It was decided early on that the other regular members would wear silver equipment with light blue accents, and Laeva prepared a sufficient number of it.

So the discussion being held here was regarding the equipment of the remaining three knight orders.

「I want heavy armored breastplates and helms. I also want thick gauntlets and greaves.」
「Heavy armor is too cumbersome and difficult to move in.」

Doganbo-san, who was participating in the meeting for some reason, had voiced his preferences for the equipment of the Earth Spirit Knights. Golan-san nodded in agreement to it. It seemed Dwarves preferred to be covered in solid heavy armor. Perhaps they wanted it all the more because they don’t ride horses.
Dan-kun refuted this, with Madd and Bill nodding in agreement.

「I dislike heavy armor.」
「Like Wappa said, heavy armor does not suit Beastkin.」
「Sophia, heavy armor is excessive for Elves too.」

Wappa, the youngest participating member, clearly spoke of his dislike for the heavy armor.
Sophia attested to such armor being ill-suited for Catkin, and Dante-san said that it was much the same for the Elves.

For large Beastkin species like Cowkin and Bearkin, heavy armor could work, but lightweight armor suits the speedy types like Catkin and Tigerkins.

I decided to ask somethign that was bothering me.

「Do we even need matching equipment for all three orders?」

Fluna and the Mermangers already had specialized equipment. It was made to suit the physique of Mermaids, so while similar equipment is fine for female Humans, Beastkin, and Elves, it wouldn’t fit men.

Mainly in terms of designs.

「We need some commonality to be recognizable as Sanctuary Knights at a glance.」
「We plan to make a coat of arms and flags for each knight order, but we would need a common design for the equipment for foreign matters as well.」

If Sophia and Dante-san, who were former knights in Yggurle Kingdom, said so, then I guess it had to be the case. I’ll have to go along with it and believe that.

「For starters, how about we make a similar armor design, then customize it to suit each knight order?」
「……fumu, that will do.」
「Golan-aniki, shall we go mine for the ore?」
「We’ll leave the armor design to Takumi.」

When I suggested making a somewhat uniform design which could then be customized by the knight orders, Golan-san and Doganbo-san seemed satisfied.

Doganbo-san was about to stand up and start mining and I quickly stopped him.

「Please wait a moment. We haven’t chosen weapons yet.」
「Ohh, that’s right. We’re definitely going to be using great axes and war hammers.」
「Doganbo-dono, only Dwarves prefer great axes and war hammers. One handed swords and shields would suffice for us Elves.」

When the conversation moved on to weapons, Doganbo-san suddenly said that it should obviously be great axes and war hammers, to which Dante-san raised an objection to.
Makes sense. I can’t imagine Elves swinging giant axes and war hammers around.

「I don’t want to carry a shield.」
「Wappa, that’s because we’ve only taught you daggers and spears.」

Dante-san mentioned one handed swords and shields, but Wappa said that he didn’t want a shield.
I wonder if this is because he’s a Catkin. Should I prepare a spear for Wappa?

「For weapons, Dwarves get giant axes and war hammers, Elves get one handed swords and shields. Salamander’s force has all sorts of races so they can just choose their preferred weapon among one handed swords, two handed swords, and spears.」
「「「That will do.」」」

There was a smorgasbord of races among Salamander’s knights, so it would be best to not force one weapon on them.

I’ll have to figure out the various types and amount of weapons needed after this.

I needed to have a word with Laeva.
