Sophia becomes a Sergeant (Volume 12 END)
Once we were done taming marine creatures at Fluna and the other’s request, we returned to the Sanctuary’s coast and left the rest to them, then headed to the three knight headquarters in the outskirts of the Central District.In the spacious training grounds built on the outskirts, young men and women running in sync in a neat formation.
Overseeing them were Sophia and Dante-san.
Perhaps on a little field trip, Maria and Marnie had brought their daughters to watch. Freesia-san was also beside them, carrying Etoile.
「They’ve really grown in numbers.」
「Ah, Takumi-sama, you’ve returned.」
「Welcome home.」
「Wekom om.」
Watching them run in an orderly fashion, I made a comment about how I hadn’t realize their numbers had increased. Hearing this, Maria and Marnie turned around, and surprisingly, Flora imitated Marnie’s greeting.
That made me so happy I forgot what i was going to ask about.
I took turns holding and doting with Flora, Etoile, and Haruka.
When I was handing Flora to Marnie, Marnie asked if we were able to tame the sea creatures.
「So, were you able to grant Fluna-san and the other’s wish?」
「……here she is. About that. Yeah, we were able to tame them safely. I just watched though.」
「I see, what monster is it?」
「It’s apparently a type of Sea Dragon, similar to a Sea Serpent but with four fins, I guess? The Familiar Contract went without a hitch too, it seemed highly intelligent.」
「Is that so? I’ll have Fluna show it to me next time.」
Maria showed interest in the tamed monster.
I’m not sure if that could thing could be called a beast ride though.
「Are you out on a walk?」
「Yes. Flora has a lot of energy, after all.」
「Ai!」
「Haha, is that so? Did you play a lot?」
Flora tried very hard to speak, but of course, I still couldn’t understand her.
I once again turned my gaze towards the trainees running.
「………what a sergeant.」
「Sergeant?」
「No, it’s nothing. Just me mumbling.」
Seeing them run in orderly lines, I remembered scenes of military academy training in movies I’ve seen ages ago.
「They’re even singing while running……」
More so, Sophia was calling them “maggots”. Who did she get this from?
Leading the group were Dan, Madd, and Bill, the first three who wanted to become knights, and I noticed that behind them were individuals not of the noble class of Valkyra King, which included Elves, Humans, and Beastkin.
「Did the Elves increase considerably?」
「That’s right, Takumi-kun. As Sylph-sama wished for it, Lumia-sama and Mimir-sama actively promoted it.」
「……is it perhaps still increasing?」
「Yggurle Kingdom doesn’t have many places for young people to work as well.」
According to Freesia-san, Yggurle Kingdom had too many young elves looking for work.
Elves were naturally reclusive and don’t normally travel to other countries, so they had no choice but to search for work domestically. Moreover, Elves were long-living, so higher positions were limited and rarely had vacancies.
As a result, there were many Elves that were young NEETs.
「Then there’s the Sanctuary Knights. Sylph-sama, a Great Spirit, wished for it, and the workplace was on sacred land. You understand why the young, shut-in elves would jump at the opportunity, don’t you?」
「I understand, Yggurle Kingdom has a hard time too.」
I watched the running trainees again.
It was then that I noticed there weren’t any dwarves.
「Huh? There’s no dwarves.」
「Takumi-sama, Gnomstoll Kingdom is far from here.」
「And dwarves have short legs.」
「You have a point.」
Even though Gnome’s knights had yet to arrive, it still felt like there was a lot of people.
「……in that case, aren’t there too many?」
「Fufu, in the beginning, Salamander-sama’s troops were mainly the lesser noble sons.」
「Yes, and now they’ve scouted commoner Humans and Beastkin too, it seems.」
「Come to think of it, he’s here too. ……that one, isn’t that Wappa?」
「Wappa-kun is amazing. Since Takumi-kun trained him, he’s much stronger than the other children here.」
I hadn’t noticed since he was in the group, but Wappa was running energetically.
Wappa wasn’t of age just yet, but perhaps because he was a Beastkin, he was growing quickly and had high physical capabilities.
Moreover, since he went through power leveling with us, his level was higher than everyone else here, and he had combat skills drilled into him.
「So Wappa’s going to join the knights.」
「He said he was going to protect his sister and the other children.」
「Ohh, then we have to cheer him on.」
I see, I thought he was still a child, but kids sure do grow fast.
As I was lost in thought watching Wappa run, someone tapped my shoulder.
「So you’re back.」
「Ah, Dante-san.」
「As you can see, their numbers have increased quite a bit.」
「Indeed so.」
「So, you know what that means?」
「Eh?」
「Equipment, please.」
「………yes.」
It seems we’ll have to make a large amount of armor and weapons from now on.
