Simon Goes To See His Wife
In order to gather information directly regarding the establishment of a knight order in the Sanctuary, as well as to see his wife, Simon had come to the Sanctuary.
Despite using a Demon Horse-drawn carriage for the trip from the Royal Capital to the Sanctuary, Simon felt it was getting too physically draining. He wondered if it was time to retire comfortably, like Galahad did.
Now, the carriage Simon was using was the one with suspensions and dampers that Takumi created, so when it ran across serviced roads, it barely ever rocked.
As always, he passed through the prospering territory of Margrave Volton to Wedgefort, then Valor, and finally towards the entrance of the Sanctuary.
Even Simon, the acting prime minister of Valkyra Kingdom, felt a bit of tension at this time.
He was thinking it would be fine since he has passed through multiple times before, but he could never shake off the anxiety of what he would do if he was repelled by the barrier.
Perhaps this was the price of being in a position that requires one to associate with all sorts of people in order to lead the country.
Eventually, the carriage passed through the first gate and to the entrance of the annexed district.
Feeling slightly relieved, he booked a room at the Lodge.
He could have stayed at Rosary’s residence since they’re married, but as the prime minister of Valkyra Kingdom, he had a reputation to uphold, so he refrained.
Mimir and Lumia, who were mindfully more than halfway to becoming citizens, were special cases.
Actually, if someone was asked whether they would choose which Yggurle Kingdom or the Great Spirits, they would undoubtably choose the Great Spirts,.
Once he was done checking in, he used the Sanctuary’s stagecoach and headed to the center of the Sanctuary without any attendants.
Simon thought he should meet with Rosary before anything else.
He greeted the man driving the carriage.
「To Rosary Von Portfort’s mansion, please.」
「Madam Rosary’s mansion? At this time, she should be working in the government office, would that be alright?」
「……government office?」
「It is somewhat of an administrative building. She works alongside Madam Elizabeth and Madam Lumia there.」
「Rosary is?」
「Yes. Managing multiple civil officials, she works very hard.」
「……could you bring me to that government office?」
「Very well. Let us be on our way then.」
Trying to calm his confused heart, he gazed at the Sanctuary’s scenery from the window of the moving carriage.
As they passed through the grassland section and into the central district, he could see there was a bit more development in the short spam that he wasn’t here for.
Before long, the carriage stopped at an impressive building.
「We have arrived.」
「……mhm, appreciated.」
He alighted the carriage and gazed at the building once more.
Like always, he was impressed by how marvelous the structures were in the Sanctuary.
And here, two young men wearing armor who appeared to be knights ー the very reason Simon came to the Sanctuary ー were standing on alert in front of a small building that seemed to be a guard shack.
Simon spoke to the young knights.
「I’d like to meet with Rosary, would you be able to usher me in?」
「Oh, Lord Portfort. We shall inform Madam Rosary post haste.」
Saying so, he exchanged looks with the other young man. The other knight nodded back and entered the guard shack. There was likely a communications magic device installed there, and it would be used to notify Rosary of Simon’s visit.
「Do you know me?」
「Certainly. I come from a baronial family of Valkyra Kingdom, as such it is impossible for me to not know of you, Lord Portfort.」
「Oh, is that so?」
Simon had hoped to hear a more detailed account regarding the knight order when he met the third and fourth sons of nobility, but the young man came out of the guard box and said he had arranged an appointment for Simon and would guide him there.
「Lord Portfort, I will be your guide.」
「I, I see. Much appreciated.」
Following the young man, Simon continued into the government building.
Inside the magnificent building that could rival the royal castle, he made observations as they walked. No, with the intricate ornamental structures and decorative lighting magic devices, he thought it might even surpass the royal castle.
He then turned his gaze towards the armor of the knight guiding him.
The shiny silvery knight armor looked spectacular even to Simon.
Based on the color, it was likely made of mithril alloy. It was impossible to equip normal rank and file knights with mithril alloy armors, it was limited to leadership roles even in Valkyra Kingdom. And compared his memory of Galahad’s armor, the young knight walking ahead of him seemed to be wearing armor of even higher quality.
「Lord Portfort, please wait here.」
「Very well.」
The room he was guided to was a wonderful reception room.
After a bit of waiting, the door opened and in came Rosary.
「It’s been a while, dear. What brings you here all of a sudden?」
「Umu, you seem to be doing well.」
Seeing Rosary for the first time in so long, she seemed to be doing well and it felt to him like she was more youthful than when she was at the capital.
「Well, I have a rough understanding of why you’re here.」
「Mhmm, there are a variety of things I want to ask, but I’d like to ask about the knights.」
「Okay. I will soon be done with work, why don’t we speak more comfortably at Takumi-kun’s place?」
「At Iruma-dono’s mansion?」
「He’s the one responsible for all the changes that happen in the Sanctuary, after all.」
「I-is that so? Iruma-dono seems to a have a lot on his plate.」
「Well then, have some tea and wait a little longer.」
「Very well.」
Saying so, Rosary cheerfully left the room.
Feeling conflicted that his wife looked more lively here than when she was in their mansion at the capital, Simon waited for Rosary to finish her work.
