Barbecue at the Beach

On the beach, Sophia, Maria, and Marnie as well as our children were sitting on the chairs I had laid out for the barbecue.

Today, because the Sea Serpent appeared, they hadn’t gotten as big of a catch with the net, but using harpoons, they did manage to catch several large catches they had never done so before.

To celebrate the defeat of the Sea Serpentー a fitting debut for the Mermaid Squad Mermangersー and their safe catch beyond the barrier, we were having a seaside barbecue.

This was my daughters’ first time at the beach, so they were absolutely delighted. Especially Flora, now capable of walking on her own, was waddling on the sandy beach.

Marnie and the maids were having a hard time keeping up with them.

Perhaps wanting to enjoy the barbecue and have playtime with the kids, Madam Elizabeth, Madam Rosalie, and Madam Lumia quickly tidied up their work and joined us with their subordinates.
Rather, at this point, they’ve completely assimilated as top three of our Government, but were Valkyra Kingdom and Yggurle Kingdom really okay with this?

I created a grilling station using earth magic. Though limited in quantity, the Sanctuary produces some charcoal, but we buy the rest from the Papeck Company. This time, we bought it.

Outside of the Sanctuary, charcoal and firewood were still used for heating during winter, but since I installed heating magic devices into the homes when I initially made the housing in the Sanctuary, and the stores here mostly sold an array of magic devices, so there wasn’t much demand for charcoal.

It’s only when we have barbecues with everyone like today that we use it.

「Okay, the charcoal is lit.」
「Takumi-sama, could you please help break down the Sea Serpent?」
「Roger.」

Once the coals were smoldering, Laeva asked me to help her with dismantling the Sea Serpent.

What I saw was Fluna and the Mermangers were working hard to take apart the Sea Serpent they hunted.

「Fluna, I’ll help with the dismantling too.」
「Ah, Takumi-sama, thank you very much!」
「「「「Thank you very much!」」」」

When I mentioned that I was going to help, Fluna smiled and thanked me, and Lana and the others looked just as happy.
They might have been too happy with me helping, but everyone was waiting so I quickly helped.

「First, let’s cut it into segments of the same length then break it down from there.」
「Wait a minute. If possible, we would like to keep it so the bones are still connected.」
「Roger! Then let’s separate the meat from the bones first.」
「Thank you very much.」

I thought we would slice it into round pieces first to make it easier to dismantle, but then Laeva requested that we keep the bones largely intact. She must have something planned for it. It was more work, but we couldn’t cut corners when it comes to craftwork.

What I took out was not a dismantling knife, but the Holy Sword Vajra.
The Holy Sword Fudou had the Light and Fire attributes, so it would be bad if I charged too much magic power into it.
Not that Vajra was a good sword for dismantling either though. If Golan-san and Doganbo-san were to see this, they would be furious.

Doganbo-san and Golan-san planned to bring alcohol and join us later, so I had to do this now.

The body structure of the Sea Serpent was close to a snake, so I made my cuts with that in mind.

I was using it for the wrong purpose, but as expected of Vajra. It glided like butter and before I knew it, we finished dismantling.

「Fluna, can you cut it up for the barbecue?」
「Yes. Everyone, let’s cut it down to size.」
「「「「Roger.」」」」

I left the task of cutting it to fillets for the grill to Fluna and the Mermangers.

「Ohh! We made it in time!」
「We brought the booze!」

Just then, Doganbo-san and Golan-san arrived with large casks.

That was a close call. If they saw me using Vajra to dismantle that serpent, they would have definitely told me off.

The barbecue on the beach was started off lively.

The flavor of the Sea Serpent was absolutely delicious.

One might assume that the meat would be tough because it’s like snake meat, but the Sea Serpent was not tough. It had the right amount of chew and was a very juicy meat that felt similar to some of the highest quality chicken meat.

「Nom, nom.」
「You don’t have to rush, there’s plenty more where that came from.」

Among my daughters, Flora, who was a Beastkin, was already growing her teeth and weaning. Even now, her mouth was all messy as she bit into the sea serpent meat.

「Yummy~!」
「Right? It’s so good.」

Marnie spoke to Flora as she wiped her mouth.

That’s right. Flora had already started saying some simple words.

However, her first word was “Mama”. Was it hard to say “Papa”?
