Greatest Alchemist? Chapter 614

Light Sword 3

I enjoyed a meal together with my family and friends in our vast dining room.
It felt like my magic power restored faster the more relaxed I was.

「Now then Takumi, show me Tsukiyomi.」
「Yes, here it is.」

When we returned to the Smithing Workshop, Doganb-san, Golan-san, Gnome, and Salamander were preparing to resume sword making.
It was the nthat Golan-san asked to see Tsukiyomi, so I withdrew it from the Item Box.

「Fumu, a magnificent sword. Enchanting it with two attributes is impressive. But the craftsmanship was crude.」
「Where, Golan-aniki? Let me see it too.」

Doganbo-san toook Tsukiyomi from Golan-san and inspected it as well.

「This is the sword that you converted from the demon sword, Sword of the Absorber all those years ago. What a fine piece.」
「The blades we’re about to forge will have a special characteristic, Self Repair, without being bestowed too. You can replace that enchantment slot for a different one. I’m looking forward to the final product.

Once Golan-san and Doganbo-san finished inspecting the sword, they sheathed the sword and returned it to me.

「Then let’s start.」

Like always, I was going to create an alloy with altered hardness.

The core steel had to be abundatly tough.

The edge steel will be hard with some reduced amount of hihiirokane.

Skin Steel was made to be somewhere in between the two.

Gnome told me about the alloy ratio of orichalcum to hihiirokane.
I could have synthesized by 1% increments if I hadn’t known, but that would have been a waste of magic power and time.

I was going to synthesize 5% of hihirokane with the orichalcum.
I imagined that it being thoroughly and evenly mixed.
The bluish-whte orichalcum was mixing together with the golden colored hihiirokane.

「『Transmute!』」

The orichalcum ingot and hihirokane ingot united and creating an emerald green alloy.

「Phew, that had taken so much magic power.」
「Of course it would, God Metal can’t be made that easily, after all.」」

I’m convinced that I have successfully synthesized the ultimate alloy that combines the best of both hardness and toughness on the blade.

Normally, when a blade is hard, it becomes brittle. But this is the ultimate orichalcum alloy known as God Metal. It’s an alloy that goes beyond common sense.

「……this is amazing.」
「……a, ahhh, we’re witnessing what Dwarven craftsmen could only ever dream of.」

Golan-san and Doganbo-san, who had been fellow apprentices, were deeply moved.

I thought they were exaggerating, but I felt my magic power had been exhausted and had no energy to make a retort.
While the two were inspecting the orichalcum so close they could almost lick it, I drank a mana potion and rested.

Once I had restored my magic power completely, I synthesized an alloy with 7% hihiirokane.

「『Transmute』!」

Once again, I spent a large amount of magic power, and a faint but slightly deeper shade of emerald green metal with the same golden color as before was completed.

「Haa, now I just need to divide the these two and that should do it.」

I divided the two orichalcum alloys, one for the sword the same size as Tsukuyomi and the other one being the size of a short sword.

I drank one more mana potion and took another break.

「What’s the shape of the sword on your left hand?」
「Perhaps a single edged, thick beveled short sword.」

As I was taking a break, Doganbo-san asked about one of the swords, so I talked about what I had in mind.

「Fumu, do you prefer sturdiness over sharpness?」
「You know, Golan, this orichalcum alloy called god metal will be sturdy no matter what sword it is. It won’t chip like ordinary blades, and even if it did, it would restore itself in no time.」
「If that’s how it is in its raw state, I’m excited to see its performance fully enchanted, Aniki.」

When Golan heard that I would use a thick bevel, he accurately surmised that I was prioritizing sturdiness over sharpness, then Gnome interjected that any sword made from this god metal would be sturdy even without any planning.

In that case, if I widen the blade and made it heavier, it might turn into a sword with a good balance of offense and defense.

「But isn’t Takumi’s swordsmanship already at such a high level that a second strike isn’t needed?」
「I’m definitely aware that, at times, receiving an attack can create an opening to strike, but I believe preparation is necessary if we assume there will be a fight with a formidable enemy.」
「Hmmm, it’s important to be prepared.」

Doganbo-san, who knew my swordsmanship skills, seemed to have doubts about my choice to prioritize defense over offense, but understood when I gave my explanation.

It’s true that having two swords of the same shape makes it possible to fight in a similar fighting style. But in a furious fight, a short sword for parrying or a more manageable sword could be the deciding factor whether you win or lose.

Besides, if I wanted to go on an offense focused style, I can simply switch to Tsukiyomi, after all.

Confirming that my magic power was restored, I began transmuting the things needed for the skin steel.
