Greatest Alchemist? Chapter 684

Galahad’s Thoughts

「……Iruma-dono, could that perhaps be the Sanctuary Knight?」
「Eh, ah, yes. That’s right.」

For some reason, Galahad-san had a serious look about him as he watched the patrolling knights.

Before long, we arrived at an empty house in the Residential District.

「What do you thin of this place? It’s not too big, but I think it’s not small enough to be confining.」
「Not at all, it’s only for my wife and I and Karla. It is more than spacious.」
「Indeed. It has a garden, and sufficient rooms.」
「I’m glad to hear that.」

Galahad-san and Cornelia-san’s responses weren’t bad. I’m glad if they liked it.

「Then here is the key to this place. The beds have already been provided according to the number of rooms, so shall we buy your other daily necessities and furniture?」
「Ohh, may we ask for assistance?」
「Yes. Leave it to me, including the luggage in your carriage.」
「Oh dear, we really must not ask the head of the Sanctuary, but thank you.」
「Yes, of course.」

After confirming the location of the house, we decided to go buy the items that Galahad-san and Cornelia-san would need immediately for now.

The heavy luggage could easily be solved by my Item Box, after all.

◇ Galahad POV

It happened while Iruma-dono was driving the carriage to the Residential District.

A young man, who could still be called a young boy, was clad in a splendid knight armor.

A knight order in the Sanctuary?

Having worked as the knight commander of the Valkyra Knight Order, I should have been caught wind of this faster than most. However, I had not heard a single thing regarding the establishment of a knight order in the Sanctuary.

「……Iruma-dono, could that perhaps be a Sanctuary Knight?」
「Eh, ah, yes. That’s right.」

I could not help but ask Iruma-dono, but he responded simply enough.

My word, since when did they knights…… I couldn’t help but consider the significance of establishing that knight order until the carriage came to a halt.

「What do you think of this place? It’s not too big, but I think it’s not small enough to be confining.」
「Not at all, it’s only for my wife and I and Karla. It is more than spacious.」
「Indeed. It has a garden, and sufficient rooms.」
「I’m glad to hear that.」

The house Iruma-dono directed us towards was smaller than the mansion in the capital that I had handed over to my eldest son, but it plenty spacious for the three of us, Cornelia, Karla, and I.
Cornelia seemed to be pleased with it as well, so we decided on it immediately.

After all, we suddenly imposed our retirement upon them. The fact that they were even willing to accept us was more than enough.

To begin with, my retirement as the knight commander and hand off to my son had been discussed long ago with His Majesty.
My son had reached 30 years of age, experienced war, and I had taught him everything that I could.
The position knight commander was not hereditary, but setting aside parental bias, fortunately or unfortunately, no one else was capable of becoming a leader.

It also aligns with the country’s policy to rejuvenate the knight order, so after much consultations with His Majesty, I decided to retire and move to the Sanctuary.
Thinking back on it now, I should have discussed it with Iruma-dono at the very minimum.

It saddens me to be away from my grandchildren, but my son would have relied on me had I stayed in the Capital. He has capable aides to assist him, it would not serve him well should my influence linger indefinitely.

In terms of my physical strength, I could still be in active service for another ten to twenty years.

As I was thinking that, Iruma-dono handed three keys to me.

As it was only Cornelia, Karla, and I, we had only brought the bare minimum luggage, so it had been a concern whether we would be able to procure all essential items in the Sanctuary, but there were normal stores here as well.

Iruma-dono stated that he would help carry everything in his outlandishly capacious Item Box. I thought this was not a task befitting the representative of the Sanctuary, but it would be foolish to refuse vehemently.

Cornelia and Karla discussed what tableware, cookware, daily necessities, furniture, and sundries were lacking and purchased them one after the other.

Surprisingly, the Sanctuary had several prominent stores, with selections and quality on par with the Capital.

The vending lineup included the Papeck Company, closely associated with Iruma-dono and was one of the leading companies in Valkyra Kingdom, Iruma-dono’s own renowned trading company – famous even at the Capital, and several other famous trading companies.

Cornelia and Karla wee truly enjoying their shopping spree like a mother and daughter.

Karla was one of the maids who worked in our mansion. She was an orphan without any relatives. In the past, Cornelia had taken her in from the orphanage as a maid and raised her as a good and obedient child. Cornelia truly loved Karla like she was her own daughter. Perhaps because we’ve only had three sons, she must have really wanted a daughter.

However, the Sanctuary Knights, huh………

I realized that the passion that I thought had been extinguished inside of me was flaring up once more.

It appears it was too early for me to retire.

I couldn’t suppress the smirk my mouth was forming.
