Winter Play

If I lounge around in my room, Maribelle scolds me.

It couldn’t be helped, so I thought about playing with Flora.

“No, you have to work.” being shoved at me is unacceptable.

Unlike Etoile and Haruka, who were elf and human respectively, Flora who was a rabbitkin could already stand up by herself and had been walking bit by bit.

I was both happy and a little bit sad about how fast she was growing, and I had to get myself together and focus on playing with her.

Basically everything I wear, from my underwear to my casual wear to my coat, were all made from fabrics weaved from Kaede’s threads.
These outfits were enchanted to maintain a comfortable temperature, so unless I am in extreme colds or scorching deserts, it would mostly feel like a normal summer heat or winter cold that pose no obstacle when I wear my jacket.

Naturally, the winter chill in the Sanctuary this year was no problem at all.

And of course, Flora’s outerwear was also enchanted.

And so we were able to play outside.

I arrived at a completely vacant space on the south side, still in the central district.

This area in the direction heading towards the south mining district still had plenty of vacant space.

In this one area, I used magic to create a large amount of snow.

Undine and the other Great Spirits were aware that I was reincarnated into this world by Goddess Norn, so they often express how the people of this world were like.

Playing might only be a possibility if you had enough time to spare in your life.

「I wonder if skiing or skating exists in this world?」
「Hmm, I don’t know. Sylph, what do you think?」

When Undine said that, Sylph suddenly appeared.

「Skating and skiing? There is a tool for walking in places where snow gather. It’s so that you don’t sink into the snow. But what Takumi mentioned is probably not that.」
「If you both don’t know it, then it might not exist.」

What Sylph was talking about was likely snow shoes.

Since it’s faster to show it than explain with words, I took out enough Treant Wood and mithril alloy from my Item Box, and then I invoked my alchemy spell.

I transmuted skis and snowboards right there.

「I have to make the boots too.」

I took out monster leather and a small amount of mithril alloy from the Item Box and transmuted it.

I created ski boots and snowboard boots.

「The shape is different.」
「The two planks are the skis, and the single plank is the snowboard.」

Undine and Sylph picked up the skis and snowboard to examine them.

I reproduced the foot bindings of skis and snowboards too. It was a trial product only meant to show these two, so it had no lining on the bottom side meant to reduce friction with the snow.

「Can this even be used by children?」

The size of the snowboards and skis aside, I’d have to make various sizes of boots too.

「How intriguing. It would be nice to play in winter.」
「You would catch a cold if you don’t wear warm clothes, you know.」

「If you have to make the clothing too, that would be a lot of work.」
「What fun things do plan to do with Flora for now?」
「Building snowmen and playing on a sled, I guess.」

Since I’d be playing with little Flora, I hadn’t even considered skiing and snowboarding.

Since it’s a sled, it can be made with easily with a little bit of wood.

I took Treant Wood out of my Item Box for a second time and began the transmutation process.

What I transmuted was a sled that could fit one adult.

「Ah, a sled. There’s a slightly larger one like this. Its use is different though.」
「Indeed. In places where snow piles up, they use it to transport luggage.」

Apparently, there were sleds drawn by horses and Demon Horses in the northern regions of this world where snow accumulated.

「This one won’t be pulled by a horse, it’s meant for sliding down a slope.」

I already made the sled, so I should play with Flora.

「Wait a moment.」
「That’s right. Why are you leaving already?」
「You haven’t explained what skating is yet.」

Undine and Sylph grabbed my shoulder.

「I wanna play with Flora though…… okay fine.」

It couldn’t be helped, so I gave a simple explanation of skates.

「It’s shoes attached with a blade that let you glide on ice.」
「Wait a moment.」

It would be much easier to understand if they see it, so I will quickly transmute one.

I’ll use the design of a figure skating shoe, I guess?

I didn’t make the edge too sharp so it shouldn’t be dangerous.
I handed Undine the completed skates.

「Woah, how intriguing. I want to glide too.
「Ah, me too, please.」
「Sigh, fine.」

Sylph said she wanted her own, so after I created another, then moved away from the snowy playground, then used Earth Magic to flatten the ground.

I surrounded the area with chest-high walls and created a thick layer of ice within it.

「Whew, this is a skating rink. Try skating inside this.」

Before I could even finish my sentence, Undine and Sylph already wore their skates and started gliding.

「How fascinating.」
「Uwaa! This is fun!」
「……you’re skating even without any practice.」

Anything goes with the Great Spirits, I guess.

「Takumi! Make sure to prepare a few sleds!」

I heard Sylph yell as I was heading back.

I raised my hand in acknowledgement.

I want to play with Flora as soon as possible.
