Securing Horses

I rode in tandem with Kaede on Tsubaki to the place that Sylph pointed on the map of the Savage Lands.

Kaede was in a really cheery mood behind me.

「I’m so excited to be out with Master!」

Kaede was over the moon the instant I said that she, Tsubaki, and I were going out.

Come to think of it, I haven’t been spending much time with her recently. That made me feel a tad guilty.

The location indicated on the map had a river running through the grasslands, with some small forests and gently-sloping hills.

「I see, it’s not only monsters, plenty of animals inhabit this area.」
「I can feel several presences, Master.」
『I can sense several presence nearby, Master.』
「Then as we planned, Kaede will capture them with her silk, and we’ll tame them if possible. Tsubaki’s here too, so we should manage somehow.」
「Kaaay!」
『Understood.』

In our party, Kaede and I, who excelled at searching for enemies, did our best to identify all Battle Horse presences.

We found the Battle Horses before long.

I’m not sure if a herd of five was small or big, but we need quite a lot of them, so I’ll try to tame them immediately.

The Battle Horse’s physique didn’t seem to be that different from a Demon Horse.

They were larger than normal horses, with thicker limbs. Despite that, they run faster than a Demon Horse, have plenty of stamina, and were tough.

As the name “Battle Horse” implied, they had wild and aggressive temperaments. Despite being a horse, they were also omnivores who ate the meat of small animals such as Horned Rabbits that they themselves hunted.

Their horse bodies commonly have a black base, with some identifying white marks on their forehead, or white tipped legs.

Their manes were long and neat.

Tsubaki accelerated and quickly approached.

The Battle Horses that noticed us tried to escape, but they couldn’t win against Tsubaki’s speed, and Kaede quickly caught them with her threads.

When we jumped off of Tsubaki, the horse that seemed to be the herd leader roared and snorted menacingly as it struggled unsuccessfully against Kaede’s threads.

It was when Tsubaki made a low and rumbly intimidating neigh that the Battle Horses stopped trying to break free from their bindings and fell silent.

「Thanks, Tsubaki.」

Tsubaki and Kaede were putting pressure on the Battle Horses.

Perhaps realizing that they couldn’t beat me, or that running away is useless, taming them went as smoothly as it could be.

「Okay, Kaede, you can undo your silk.」
「Roger!」

After Kaede released them, the Battle Horses slowly stood up and just waited for my instructions.

「Gather around me, we’re teleporting.」

The Battle Horses surrounded me.

Kaede and I got on Tsubaki’s back, and I opened a gate to teleport us back to the Sanctuary. The Battle Horses followed after.

「Welcome back! As expected, I was right that they were there, wasn’t I?」
「Takumi-sama, these are amazing horses. I will take responsibility over these ones.」
「Ah, yeah, thanks.」

When we passed through the Gate, we were met by an overly excited Sylph and Sophia who was happy to see the Battle Horses, and led to the completed stable.

「Hey, Sophia. One of those is for me, right?」
「What are you saying, Father? One will not be allocated to you, as you are not even a member.」
「What are YOU saying? I AM a member of the Knight Order.」

Dante-san wanted a Battle Horse for himself, but was immediately shot down by Sophia.

「……are horses really that important to knights?」
「Who knows, I’m a Spirit. I haven’t a clue.」
「Suppose so. I wouldn’t either.」

After that, I went around the other places that Sylph pointed out on the map and caught more Battle Horses.

Eventually, I was able to capture forty Battle Horses, but Sophia and Dante-san said that it still wasn’t enough.

「Takumi-sama, if it is possible, please secure the same number of horses again.」
「……I can’t do that right away. Sylph and her familial spirits are still searching, so I will do it after that.」

I don’t know how many members the knight order will have, so increasing the amount of Battle Horses may turn out to be unnecessary, but Sophia and Dante-san thought otherwise.

With the help of the knight candidates and the children of the Sanctuary, Dante-san and Sophia happily took care of the Battle Horses.

If it’s to keep seeing Sophia look so happy, I should do my best and search for more.
